The Intelligent Power Factor Controller – can be used in LT systems. Power Factor can be monitored and controlled. Alarm signals are given for PT failure, CT failure, Phase Sequence error, CT reverse error and inadequate banks.

Operation:

The IPFC is an equipment that measures the power factor and compares it with the set PF continuously. If the measured PF is more lagging than the set PF, the equipment automatically selects the best combination of banks for required KVAR from the available bank values and switch ON the capacitor banks till the set PF or unity has reached. If set PF is not achieved even after switching ON the entire capacitor banks “Alarm” signal is energized with an error message of “Lack of Banks”.

If the measured PF is leading than the set PF, the equipment automatically selects the best combination of banks for required KVAR from the available bank values and switches OFF the capacitor banks till the set PF or unity has reached.

PF correction can be done manually through the keyboard.

When the IPFC is installed first time, the bank values should be calibrated in no load condition. This can be done automatically or manually. In automatic calibration mode IPFC automatically switch ON the banks one by one and record the values.
